Mike has worked with the NSMC since 2008, first as the North Western Development & Support Manager and then as an Associate. As the North West lead, Mike helped eleven Primary Care Trusts develop programmes to tackle a range of behavioural challenges on alcohol, smoking cessation, healthy weight, oral health, cardiovascular disease and cancer. Subsequently, he has continued to promote social marketing both in the UK and abroad, including delivering training courses in Sierra Leone and Panama.
Other recent experience includes working on Making Every Contact Count programmes in Salford and Gloucestershire and oral health challenges in Rutland. In addition, Mike has worked on the Mums for Health early years health initiative in Knowsley, employee health & wellbeing in Lincolnshire, smoking cessation in Manchester, physical activity on the Wirral and migration with Refugee Action and the Home Office.
Prior to joining The NSMC, Mike was an Assistant Director on the National Primary Care Development Team's Healthy Communities Collaborative - a programme that established community-led initiatives to improve health and well-being. Mike has also worked in Welfare Rights advice with Action for Blind People, local authorities and the Citizens Advice Bureau. He is a graduate in Peace Studies and also holds a Diploma in Management.
