Early Presentation of Cancer Symptoms Programme

‘Early Presentation of Cancer Symptoms’ is a community-led programme working across deprived communities in North East Lincolnshire. It uses local knowledge and communities to encourage people to present earlier with suspected symptoms of bowel, prostate and gynaecological cancers, with the aim of reducing cancer mortality rates.

Time to Change

Time to Change is England's most ambitious programme to end discrimination faced by people who experience mental health problems. It is run by Mind and Rethink, and is funded by the Big Lottery Fund and Comic Relief. It is being evaluated by the Institute of Psychiatry at King's College, London.

The programme of 35 projects involves: local community projects; a national high-profile campaign; a mass-participation physical activity week; legal test cases; and training for student doctors and teachers.

The Academy for Educational Development, a non-profit organisation specialising in social change communications, implemented a campaign to reduce nutrient pollution flowing into the Chesapeake Bay from residential sources in the greater Washington D.C. area.

EcoTeams

EcoTeams originated in the Netherlands in the 1990s and since then over 150,000 people have participated worldwide. This case study examines EcoTeams’ development in the UK between 2005 and 2008, which tested three models of delivery: standalone, semi-facilitated and fully-facilitated.

Activmob

The initiative was designed to support people with shared interests. It helped link people up and get them to help each other in being active in their everyday lives, realising that they could still be active even if they were not comfortable with more formal activities, like going to the gym or to fitness or exercise classes.
