Smarter Travel Sutton

Travel Sutton aimed to encourage a whole community to cycle, walk or use public transport for some of their trips. Funded by Transport for London and delivered in partnership with Sutton Council, the 3-year programme challenged the 184,500 residents of the London Borough of Sutton to reduce car use and traffic congestion.

VERB™

This 'for-kids-by-kids' multicultural campaign aimed to increase and maintain physical activity among 'tweens' (children aged 9 to 13). Launched in 2002 by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention in the US, VERB™ used commercial methods of youth marketing to promote being physically active as cool, fun and a chance to have a good time with friends.

Activmob

The initiative was designed to support people with shared interests. It helped link people up and get them to help each other in being active in their everyday lives, realising that they could still be active even if they were not comfortable with more formal activities, like going to the gym or to fitness or exercise classes.

Vitality

Vitality is a holistic health and wellbeing service for South West Essex, which supports individuals to improve their health by making simple lifestyle changes.

The service was developed as a result of a research exercise to understand barriers to quitting smoking. However, this research identified that residents did not want a service directed only at smoking cessation. Instead they wanted a lifestyle programme that integrated healthy eating, smoking cessation, exercise and alcohol advice.
