Time to Change

Time to Change is England's most ambitious programme to end discrimination faced by people who experience mental health problems. It is run by Mind and Rethink, and is funded by the Big Lottery Fund and Comic Relief. It is being evaluated by the Institute of Psychiatry at King's College, London.

The programme of 35 projects involves: local community projects; a national high-profile campaign; a mass-participation physical activity week; legal test cases; and training for student doctors and teachers.

PSI/Kenya insecticide-treated net social marketing programme

In 2002 the UK Department for International Development in Kenya commissioned the Population Services International (PSI/Kenya) for an intensive five-year effort to implement the world’s largest insecticide-treated net (ITN) social marketing programme. The programme’s mandate was to reduce the incidence of malaria, especially among pregnant women and children under five, by creating a culture of ITN use.

Based in Wisconsin, USA, Road Crew was one of five projects funded by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, seeking a five per cent reduction in alcohol-related crashes in the pilot communities.

Experience Food at Work

‘Experience Food at Work’ was a pilot initiative that aimed to improve workplace eating behaviours at the Breckland District Council offices in Norfolk. Led by London-based design and behaviour change consultancy Uscreates, the project used creative research and co-design techniques to develop innovative methods to improve eating behaviours, such as encouraging staff to eat more fruit and vegetables during the work day and take lunch away from their workstation.

‘Taxi!’ was a one-year pilot project developed by the Walsall Council Creative Development Team to encourage local taxi drivers to review their lifestyle and make positive changes.

Fuel Zone

To combat the declining number of young people eating school meals, Glasgow City Council’s Direct and Care Services (now Cordia LLP) developed the Fuel Zone concept in Glasgow to revamp the image of the school meals service and reward healthy eating.

Will Balbir Pasha Get AIDS?

The ‘Will Balbir Pasha Get AIDS?’ campaign formed part of PSI India’s Operation Lighthouse, an HIV/AIDS prevention programme implemented in 12 major port communities in India. The programme aimed to reduce rates of unsafe sex by motivating people to consistently use condoms, call the confidential HIV/AIDS hotline, and use the Voluntary Counselling and Treatment services.
