In this task area, you analyse a range of external and internal factors that might have a bearing on the intervention, in order to plan for how best to respond.

External environmental factors can be: socio-cultural, technological, economic, ecological, political, legal and ethical. You also need to examine strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and threats relevant to the intervention.

There are a number of tools available, such as STEEPLE and SWOT, that you can use to help with this analysis.

This task area links, in part, to NSMC Benchmark Criteria No. 6 Competition. This emphasises incorporating a ‘competition’ analysis to understand what competes for the time and attention of the audience.
